STEP 2 - MIRACLES & EXCEPTIONAL CIRCUMSTANCES LIFE EXISTS
Aim of this step: To think about the miracle of this universe and what the big bang actually means.
"The most incomprehensible thing about the universe is that it is comprehensible." – Albert Einstein
There are thousands of exceptional circumstances in which life exists. For many, the precision with which the universe exploded into being provides even more persuasive evidence for the existence of a God.

The argument (technically known as the Teleological Argument) goes like this:
1. Every design has a designer
2. The universe has a highly complex design
3. Therefore, the universe had a Designer.

Every watch requires a watchmaker. When we wander through the woods and find a diamond studded Rolex watch on the ground do we assume it came from natural forces? No, there is absolutely no question that some intelligent being made that watch, and that someone unfortunate must have dropped it there.

Scientists are now finding that the universe in which we live is like that watch, except that the universe is even more precisely designed. Some of these include; Oxygen levels, Atmospheric Transparency, Moon-Earth Gravitational Interaction, Carbon Dioxide Levels and Gravity. There are more than 100 very narrowly defined constants that strongly point to an intelligent designer.
The precision required for the world to exist makes it near impossible for the world to exist as it does today.
One example is this: it is estimated that the universe is 28 billion light years in diameter (28 billion years travelling at the speed of light). To get an idea of speed and time, at the speed of light in one second you would travel around the world 7 times! Imagine you had a ruler with 1 inch increments the whole way across the entire universe (28 billion light years). For illustrative purposes, let’s say the ruler represented the range of possible gravity options from no gravity to 100% gravity at its fullest here on earth going the whole way across the universe. If you turned the dial so fractionally that it was only 2 inches from the current gravity that we experience here on earth, we would not be able to live with the reset gravity levels. JUST GRAVITY! The world works in absolute perfect precision.

In 1 second, the sun produces energy greater than the combined power of a billion major cities over an entire year! Currently in the world there are only 455 cities with populations greater than 1 million people that would be considered major.

Another example is this: the density of the universe must be set at a preciseness of 10 to the power of minus 60 which is equal to the preciseness an archer would need to shoot an arrow into a very small target of one square centimetre placed at the edge of the universe at a distance of 14 billion light years! This was certainly very difficult for me to comprehend.

Also consider this: Every snow flake is different. Every butterfly wing is different. There are too many coincidences of “just rightness” for our world to be a random haphazard coincidence.

“Almost everyone now believes that the universe, and time itself, had a beginning at the Big Bang” – Stephen Hawking

Scientists generally agree now that earth had a starting point and most claim to be able to prove that the big bang actually happened. They disagree about the timing (as nobody can prove, for example, that the speed of light has not changed over time), however, many estimate this to be 12-15 billion years ago.

Modern scientists tell us that they have determined beyond a reasonable doubt that time, space and matter had a beginning at the big bang. Dr Frank Turek says in his book I don’t have enough faith to be an atheist: if time, space and matter had a beginning, whatever created time, space and matter must be outside of time, space and matter. They cannot create themselves.
Frank continues that logically, this creator must also be:

* unimaginably powerful, to create the entire universe out of nothing;
* supremely intelligent, to design the universe with such incredible precision (coming up in the next steps)
* personal, in order to choose to convert a state of nothingness into the time-space-material universe (an impersonal force has no ability to make choices).
* purposeful, to design the many forms of life to live in this specific and ordered environment.

This line of thinking is also called the Teleological Argument.

You can call this creator whatever you like, but I think that these are characteristics of a God.
