STEP 6 - ETERNAL LIFE & NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCES

Aim of this step: To consider the clue that near death experiences give us about life after death.

If you go on to youtube, you will find an abundance of videos of near death experiences (NDE). This is essentially a phenomenon where a person has an out-of-body experience when they have medically died, only to return to life later.

I have looked into hundreds of NDEs myself as I became so obsessed with how similar the traits of a lot of them are. Having gone through this research, I am convinced of the reality of heaven and hell.

It really struck me that there were certain themes and elements that seemed to run through each one of these NDEs, including a heightened sense of awareness, having hundreds of senses in this heightened state, seeing dead relatives and loved ones, overwhelming feelings of love, peace and warmth, being “sent back” to their bodies and in some cases, either a heaven or hell experience.

What I found to be most profound was the feelings that these people experience. In every single NDE I have heard the individual state that:

  • all pain is gone upon the experience starting (initially anyway).

  • they felt love, peace and joy when they went in the bright light.

  • time did not exist like it does here. Usually they say that time didn’t exist at all or was standing still or things were happening all at once.

  • they felt like it would be an eternal state.

One of the NDEs that stuck me most, which I touched on in the introduction section of the website, is ex-atheist neurosurgeon, Dr Eben Alexander. Eben had a rare bacterial meningitis which shut down his neocortex (which is the part of the brain which allows us to think and know who we are, what we are, where we are from, etc). This resulted in Eben’s near death experience and meeting his dead sister he didn’t even know about. He writes about his “heaven” experience in his book “Proof Of Heaven”, and he is now a believer in a higher power.

Another one was Gordon Allen, who was a wealthy businessman who came back to life after his NDE to call everyone and apologise for the way he had dealt with them. He then chose to become a priest.

Some claim that NDEs are from trauma and drugs given at the time of the incident. However, this does not explain how people can see items on the roof of hospitals during their NDE which turn out to actually be there, or the many cases where the person is dead to the point of waking up in the morgue with the sheet over them, or the cases where no drugs are given to the person experiencing an NDE, or where the person comes back to know what people were saying or thinking and even a partner being pregnant without even her knowing at the time.

Studies have been done which show that almost all people who experience NDEs come to a conviction that there is life after death. Almost all people who have had an NDE come out of the experience with a belief in either a god or a “higher power” of some sort. Many lose interest in possessions and financial success and feel a greater spiritual sense of love and peace in their day to day life. Almost all lose the concern they previously had about death. They actually look forward to it. Intriguingly, some of the most affected people in their post-NDE state, are those who experienced pain and suffering during their experience. Many researchers who have studied NDEs conclude that they are real and that the afterlife experience is to be believed.

Please do look this up for yourself, but for me, the more I looked into near death experiences, the more I was convinced of eternal life and that heaven and hell is for real.
